Serious Mental Illness (SMI)

Serious Mental Illness (SMI) refers to mental health conditions that significantly impact a person’s daily functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life. These diagnoses—such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and other severe mood or thought disorders—can be deeply challenging, but healing is possible.

At Family Legacy Counseling, we understand the complexity of living with an SMI and the toll it can take—not only on the individual but on their loved ones as well. Our therapists provide compassionate, evidence-based care to help clients manage symptoms, strengthen coping skills, and move toward greater stability, self-understanding, and personal growth. With the right support, many people living with SMI can lead fulfilling, purpose-driven lives.
